Floor Care Expertise from Priority One Maintenance

When it comes to stripping and waxing floors, the tools you use can make or break the final result — and one of the most important tools is often overlooked: the mop head.

At Priority One Maintenance, we take pride in delivering professional floor stripping and waxing services across Edmonton, Beaumont, Sherwood Park, St. Albert, Fort Saskatchewan, Nisku, and Leduc, using the right mop for each stage of the process. Here’s a closer look at the different mop heads we use, and why choosing the right one matters.

🧽 1. Cotton Mop Heads — Perfect for Applying Floor Stripper

Cotton mop heads are highly absorbent, making them ideal for applying floor stripping solution. Their ability to hold a large volume of liquid allows for consistent coverage, helping the stripper break down old wax evenly across the surface.

They’re also durable enough to handle the harsh chemicals used during the stripping process, but because cotton can leave lint, we typically use them only for this initial stage.

Best for: Applying stripper and removing old finish.

🪣 2. Rayon Mop Heads — Ideal for Applying Finish and Wax

Rayon mops are a professional’s go-to for applying floor finish or wax. Unlike cotton, rayon doesn’t shed or lint, and it releases liquid smoothly and evenly. This allows for a clean, uniform coat with fewer streaks or buildup marks.

Rayon mop heads also dry quickly, which makes them perfect for multiple coats in a short amount of time — especially when working on large VCT or tile floors.

Best for: Applying wax and finish coats.

🧼 3. Microfiber Mop Heads — Great for Detail and Touch-Ups

Microfiber mop heads are extremely fine and soft, making them perfect for detail work and cleanup between coats. They’re great for picking up any leftover dust or debris before applying finish — ensuring nothing gets trapped under the wax.

Microfiber is also chemical-resistant and easy to clean, so we often use it for final touch-ups and burnish prep after the floor has fully cured.

Best for: Prep cleaning, detailing, and between-coat maintenance.

🧴 4. Blended Mop Heads — Versatility for Multi-Stage Use

Blended mop heads (cotton-rayon or rayon-synthetic mixes) offer the best of both worlds. They’re absorbent like cotton but release liquid more evenly like rayon. These are ideal for contractors who need flexibility — for example, when switching between stripping and neutral cleaning during the process.

Best for: General-purpose floor care and commercial maintenance.

🧹 Why the Right Mop Head Matters

Using the right mop head ensures:✅ Even coverage of stripper and finish✅ Fewer streaks and air bubbles✅ Faster drying times between coats✅ A longer-lasting, professional shine

It’s a small detail, but it makes a big difference in achieving that perfect high-gloss finish every client loves.
